Power Plant Engineering and Design

The demand for dispatchable, co-located electric power to support AI data centers and other high-density loads is growing faster than the grid can respond. Bell Engineering® works with developers, investors, and corporate off-takers to take distributed power generation projects from concept through engineering and construction, supporting clients through commissioning and startup. Bell offers engineering, simulation, and project management leadership across three power generation technologies, each with its own dedicated service page.

Three Technology Tracks

Bell covers the power generation technologies most relevant to behind-the-meter and near-the-fence deployment in 2026. Follow the links below for detailed service pages on each.

  • Natural Gas Power Generation — Reciprocating engines and gas turbines in the 1 MW to 100+ MW range, with fast deployment schedules and well-established supply chains.
  • Hydrogen Power Generation — Hydrogen-fueled and hydrogen-blend combustion systems, addressing emerging clean generation requirements for corporate off-takers with decarbonization mandates.
  • Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) — Low-temperature heat-to-power systems that recover waste heat from industrial processes, compressor stations, or geothermal sources. A BEgreen®-adjacent capability.

Bell's Role on Power Projects

Process simulation and heat and mass balance development in ProMax. Preliminary and detailed engineering design across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil/structural disciplines. Constructability review and stress analysis. Project management through construction, commissioning, and startup. Bell’s power generation scope pulls directly from the firm’s forty years of oil and gas and petrochemical experience, applied to the specific combustion, heat transfer, and rotating equipment challenges of a modern power plant.

Commercial and Partnership Support

Bell supports developers beyond the engineering scope through a network of legal and power-brokerage partners. This includes guidance through Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structuring, interconnection planning, and off-taker negotiations. Bell’s role is engineering, simulation, and project management. Partner firms handle legal, commercial, and transactional scope. The combination allows smaller developers and corporate off-takers to move a project from concept to operating asset without assembling a full in-house development team.

Why Bell

Forty years of process engineering and industrial project management experience applied to a fast-growing power generation market. Senior engineers who understand operating facilities, not only design documents. Small-firm responsiveness with enterprise-grade software and deliverable quality. For developers entering the behind-the-meter and data center power markets, Bell offers the combination of technical depth and practical judgment that an operating asset requires.
